What are the developmental stages of language in children?

We have different phases, in the first months of life the baby communicates as we have already said through crying.

From 2 to 6 months he is able to articulate vocal sounds, starting from the sixth month, the baby enters the phase of lallation, that is

the repetition, one or more times, of a pair of sounds (vowel and consonant). They are his first phonemes that amuse him and stimulate him to continue vocalizing.

Another important stage in the evolution of language in children is intentional verbal communication. Towards 9-12 months the ability to interact with other people grows. Subsequently, the child understands that he can also communicate through mimicry.

In the period between 16 and 18 months the child makes use of the holophrase or the use of a single word used as if it were a whole sentence.

From 24 to 36 months, the baby's vocabulary has developed, and allows him to articulate clear and comprehensible sentences with complete meaning.

From 36 months to 5 years the child's lexicon is constantly expanding, around the age of five, the child has more than 6 thousand words, so he can articulate complete and grammatically correct sentences.

Language is a behavior and, as such, it is useful to promote social interaction and promote the child's social initiative. The adult in the conversation must be responsible and patient, must wait for the child's response, without overpowering and / or anticipating the child.

We never forget, however, that the development of language in children has a considerable variability, which concerns the times and ways.
