Weaning meat: Tips.
Meat is a precious source of protein and iron and if it is cooked and served regularly in the family, it is natural for parents to wonder when they will be able to feed it to their children who have started weaning.
When to give meat to babies?
Meat can be offered from 6 months of age. The World Health Organization recommends continuing exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months, then milk is no longer sufficient to provide the growing organism with all the essential nutrients, and iron is one of them. So when we start weaning, we can insert the meat, blended or homogenized, inside the baby food or puree that we will prepare.
In what quantity?
At the beginning of weaning, just add half a jar of homogenized meat to the baby food and then increase the doses month after month. As for fresh meat, you can start with 30 grams and then increase.
How many times a week to give the meat in the weaning?
Meat should be served 3-4 times a week, and never twice in the same day.
Which type of meat is best suited for infants and weaning?
We must certainly prefer white meats, therefore:
• chicken;
• turkey;
• rabbit;
• veal.
Chicken and turkey breasts are perfect, but also a first cut of veal fillet.
Meat in auto-weaning
Weaning is a way of introducing solid and semi-solid foods that focuses on the child and his curiosity towards food. The child must sit at the table with the rest of the family and can taste everything that others eat, as long as the food is chopped and cut into small pieces. This approach causes the whole family to change their eating habits by virtue of a healthier, more balanced and varied diet.
