Walking barefoot: discover the many benefits for your baby.
How many times do we pick up the shoe or sock of our child from the ground who, even a few months old, immediately shows the desire to remain barefoot? Following the overprotective maternal instinct, we are willing to pick up the sock and put it back on the foot even every minute, as long as our baby is not in danger of getting cold or for any other reason that crosses our mind. After reading this article, our children will surely be happy to let their little feet free! Let's see together why walking barefoot is good for our children.
Why is it good to walk barefoot?
It is a study carried out by the Institute of Sports Sciences of the University of Jena, in Germany, to confirm this: walking on terrains such as grass, sand and earth serves the correct development of the foot, as it strengthens the muscles of the leg. In addition, children between the ages of 6 and 10 who engage in physical activities without shoes can more easily develop skills, such as jumping and balance. In short, children who walk barefoot from an early age demonstrate better motor performance when they grow up.
The foot is the proprioceptive organ par excellence
The foot, to learn to support us, must interact with the environment through the reception of sensory stimuli. It is for this reason that when the child is born he tends to direct his feet towards his mother and father to live the first experiences of contact. And, growing up, he can't stand shoes on his feet because being barefoot not only gives a sense of freedom, but guarantees contact with the environment that surrounds them, facilitating exploration and knowledge.
Walking on proprioceptive terrains such as grass, sand and earth, putting the foot in difficulty, helps it to develop correctly because it strengthens the muscles of the leg.
It is for this reason that it is advisable to leave your child free to walk barefoot, avoiding forcing him to always wear footwear which, please note, is a stretch.
Barefoot children: all the benefits
As already mentioned, walking barefoot is for children a sense of freedom and happiness, as well as ease of exploring the world, coming into close contact with everything that surrounds it. It also helps to achieve a sense of balance and stability more easily. But not only that, there are still many benefits for children who like to walk barefoot:
More self-awareness: walking barefoot increases self-awareness in children, thanks to contact with the earth or the floor, activating the senses that interact to increase the skills of the little ones.
Walking earlier: leaving very young children barefoot helps to encourage an early walk because, feeling better anchored to the ground, they have the opportunity to experiment their first steps freely and without constraints on the feet, such as shoes or slippers.
· Health of the sole of the foot: the footwear, especially if they are not of quality, can lead to the appearance of problems with the feet. Walking barefoot, on the other hand, improves the formation of the sole of the foot, also avoiding the problem of flat feet. Furthermore, wearing shoes promotes the formation of fungi, bacteria, sweat, calluses and bad smells, all situations that can be avoided by walking barefoot.
Therefore, whenever possible, we let our children walk barefoot, especially at home, in the garden, on the beach. Furthermore, we limit the use of footwear to children who still do not walk as they are an absolutely useless accessory.
